In a meeting with the deputy excise and taxation commissioner (DETC) on Wednesday, representatives of various industry and traders unanimously sought the rollback of e-trip system implementation.
They told the officer that neither the department nor the industry or traders were in position to implement the system.The meeting was called by DETC Rishipal Singh to listen to the grievances of the representatives of various industry and traders.
Representatives of the United Cycle and Parts Manufacturers Association (UCPMA), Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings (CICU), Federation of Association of Small Industries of India (FASII), Knitwear Club and some traders' organisations participated in the meeting.
The representatives further noted that the information uploaded for goods transaction under the e-trip system could not be called foolproof, as anybody could see the details of the transactions carried out by the traders/ manufacturers on the website of the department, and thus their privacy would be eroded.
Raising the issue of checking goods by officials of the department of excise and taxation on roads, the representatives demanded that the officials should disclose their identity to the industrialists so that they might contact them for further proceedings and industrialists were not made to run door-to-door for the impounded goods.
The long-pending issue of four-stage verification for the refund of value added tax (VAT) on account of exports outside Punjab was too raised by the industry people, who said that as per the industrial policy, the VAT refund should be given within 60 days of application, but it was not being implemented by the department.
