The Rs 16.6-crore project had started in the beginning of 2013 and was scheduled to be completed by mid-2014.

The construction of the 100-bedded mother child hospital, with special units like intensive care unit and special newborn care unit (SNCU), is almost complete, with finishing touches being given to the building these days.

The hospital is significant, not only for patients coming from across the district or state, but also for the Lord Mahavira Civil Hospital’s gynaecology ward which is in a bad condition in terms of infrastructure and services provided.

Deputy medical commissioner Dr Jasbir Singh said, “The work of the building is in its last phase as only the finishing work is left. It’s hoped that the hospital will be handed over to us by the construction department within a week or two.”

Dr Singh added the health department had already sent its demand for gynaecologists, paediatricians and other staff members and the required infrastructure and equipment for the hospital to the state, which were expected to be met after the hand over of the building.
