More than 100 activists, including women, of different mazdoor sabhas staged a dharna in front of the office of the block development and panchayat officer (BDPO), Mehatpur, under the banner of the United Front here on Monday.
Addressing the protesters, leaders alleged that the central and the state governments are not implementing the MNREGA honestly. They demanded a separate department for MNREGA workers, raising old age, widow and other pensions to rs 2,000 per month and the payment of arrears of their dues. immediately. They also demanded withdrawal of the damage to property bill 2014 and the fulfilment of the promises made to them during the run-up to the assembly elections.
A memorandum, addressed to the chief minister, was also submitted to the BDPO.
