The decision to start these buses on seven different routes of the city was taken in a board of directors meeting last week so that all those willing to attend the kabaddi match could reach the venue with ease.

The step has also been taken to ease the traffic problem that could have washed away the plans of many residents to watch kabaddi world cup finale.

The traffic was stranded in different areas of the city, but many residents did not miss the free ride.

MC decided to run 14 buses of the total fleet of 20 buses on the seven routes for the kabaddi world cup event that took place on Saturday. A large number of residents have been availing the bus service since afternoon.

"MC has decided to run free bus service for a day in the wake of kabaddi world cup. The decision was taken in the meeting of board of directors in which deputy commissioner and district transport officer, who are also the members, decided to run free bus service for a day" said Baljit Singh, manager of the city bus service, Ludhiana MC.

Inspector of the city bus service, Jaswant Singh said that the service is an initiative of MC Ludhiana for the residents of the city.

"All the 14 buses would ferry the willing residents to watch the final match between Indian and Pakistan to the Gurunanak Stadium" he said.

The selected routes

Dhandra road - Gurunanak Stadium
Gill Village - Gurunanak Stadium
Chandigarh Road - Gurunanak Stadium
Hambran Road - Gurunanak Stadium
