MC official among 165 challaned for traffic violations

A team of police commissionerate’s traffic wing, along with district transport officer Anil Kumar Garg, challaned 164 vehicle drivers during special drive against traffic rules violators on Satpal Mittal Road on Monday evening.

A team of police commissionerate’s traffic wing, along with district transport officer Anil Kumar Garg, challaned 164 vehicle drivers during special drive against traffic rules violators on Satpal Mittal Road on Monday evening.

Municipal corporation (MC) zonal commissioner PS Ghumman’s car was also challaned during the drive. The drive was held under the supervision of district transport officer Anil Garg and additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP, traffic) Gurdeep Singh.

The violators were challaned for violations such as temporary registration number plates, driving without seat belt, high beam, overloading, driving without helmet, installing black films, using mobile phone while driving, besides several others.

The team stopped a car with a blue beacon. On enquiring, the driver told the car belonged to MC zonal commissioner PS Ghumman. The officer was not in the car, following which a challan was slammed for misuse of blue beacon.

Youth Congress leader Sukhwinder Raja was also stopped at the checkpoint and challaned for tinted glasses of car.

The team also challaned a cop’s son for driving motorcycle without number plate. The youth gave his father’s reference, but the team slammed challan on him. The team also challaned a demo Jaguar car.

DTO Anil Garg said more such special drives would be held in the coming days. He said instead of arguing, city residents should start following the traffic rules.
