A team of police commissionerate’s traffic wing, along with district transport officer Anil Kumar Garg, challaned 164 vehicle drivers during special drive against traffic rules violators on Satpal Mittal Road on Monday evening.
Municipal corporation (MC) zonal commissioner PS Ghumman’s car was also challaned during the drive. The drive was held under the supervision of district transport officer Anil Garg and additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP, traffic) Gurdeep Singh.
The violators were challaned for violations such as temporary registration number plates, driving without seat belt, high beam, overloading, driving without helmet, installing black films, using mobile phone while driving, besides several others.
The team stopped a car with a blue beacon. On enquiring, the driver told the car belonged to MC zonal commissioner PS Ghumman. The officer was not in the car, following which a challan was slammed for misuse of blue beacon.
Youth Congress leader Sukhwinder Raja was also stopped at the checkpoint and challaned for tinted glasses of car.
Inspector Gagandeep Singh Ghumman, incharge (traffic zone-1) said, “As per the Supreme Court orders, any person who has installed black film or shades on windows of their vehicles, will be challaned. Even company fitted shades or tinted glasses are illegal.” Ghumman informed that a person whose son was standing from the sunroof of his car was also challaned. He said, “Such acts are illegal, besides the child can also get hurt. These days Chinese kite strings are causing a lot of injuries, and if a child is standing through the sunroof, chances of him getting injured are more.”

DTO Anil Garg said more such special drives would be held in the coming days. He said instead of arguing, city residents should start following the traffic rules.
