After getting feedback on the performance of sitting BJP councillors in the local MC, he said winnability and understanding of party ideology would be the criteria to select candidates.

In the last MC polls, the saffron party had contested 15 of the 50 seats, winning nine. The BJP holds the post of deputy major in the Akali-BJP-ruled corporation.

"The party would fight on a similar number of seats. There won't be any major change in the allotment. Local leaders of the Shiromani Akali Dal and the BJP would soon hold a meeting to finalise seat-sharing," said the minister, who was accompanied by party observer Brij Lal Rinwa.

Jyani also announced that the department would initiate the recruitment process for filling 300 posts of forest guards in the state.

He also launched the BJP's signature campaign demanding a domestic airport in Patiala, starting of the Delhi-Bathinda Shatabdi train and upgrading Government Rajindra Medical College. The campaign has been initiated by party's state human rights cell president Gurtej Singh Dhillon.
