'MC should seek review of HC order'

Following criticism for being absent at the protest against sealing of commercial establishments in residential areas, Patiala erstwhile royals have finally come out against the drive. While Patiala MP Preneet Kaur met traders and assured them of help, MLA and Punjab Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh, who is on a private tour of South Africa, has asked the municipal corporation to go back to the high court and file a review petition against the sealing orders.

Following criticism for being absent at the protest against sealing of commercial establishments in residential areas, Patiala erstwhile royals have finally come out against the drive. While Patiala MP and minister of state for external affairs Preneet Kaur held a meeting with traders and assured them of help, Patiala MLA and Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh, who is on a private tour of South Africa, has asked the municipal corporation to go back to the Punjab and Haryana High Court and file a review petition against the sealing orders.

In a statement issued here on Monday, Amarinder said that in case the Patiala MC fails to file for review, the Congress would approach court. Preneet met traders at the family's New Moti Bagh Palace and assured them that the Congress would lend all possible support to them. Passing the buck to the SAD-BJP, Preneet told traders that it was failure of the ruling alliance that caused problems for city residents who duly paid commercial charges and building plan fees but are still facing legal problems.

Reacting to the statement of Amarinder, mayor Ajitpal Singh Kohli said the "Congress is shedding crocodile tears". "Finally, Captain Singh has managed time from South Africa safari tour for Patiala residents, and that too by issuing a press release," remarked Kohli. "If Captain is serious about the problems of city residents, why is he not coming to the city by terminating his foreign tour?"
