Municipal corporation of Ludhiana that is already reeling under staff shortage has been forced to spare 26 staff members from different branches to manage the parking lots along the Ferozepur road whose lease was relinquished by contractor Bhola and Co recently.
Tehbazari wing of Zone D, under whose jurisdiction all these parking lots are present, would now manage the parking lots directly till the lots are allotted again, starting Monday.
Rajeev Bhardwaj, who took over the reins of Zone D tehbazari wing recently after he was transferred from zone A, has already prepared the staff that would be stationed at the parking lots from Monday. After the sudden exit of the parking contractor, the 13 parking lots along the Ferozepur Road have been lying unmanned.
Tehbazari would initially manage four parking lots out of these 13 due to staff shortage. These include parking lots near Silver Arc Mall, Ansal Plaza, Vishal Megamart and the one outside Hotel Nagpal. These lots witness hundreds of vehicles every day.
Bhola and Co relinquished the contract of parking lots on September 22 by giving a notice of only four days. There were several complaints of overcharging by the contractor, but the then superintendent Jasdev Sekhon severely failed to take action against the contractor, raising eyebrows. Sekhon was transferred to Zone B recently.

{{/usCountry}}Bhardwaj, who has already prepared the parking slips, said he would not allow any overcharging at the parking lots that were now under his jurisdiction.
“A total of 26 members of the MC staff from different wings would be deputed at the parking lots that were surrendered by the contractor. We have already provided parking slips to the staff. We have also sent more slips for printing,” Bhardwaj said.
Staff from B&R, horticulture and other wings has also been included for management of parking lots.
Bhardwaj said it would be the focus of tehbazari wing that no inconvenience was caused to the public at the parking lots managed by the wing.
Tehbazari wing is also managing the multi-level parking near Mata Rani Chowk for the past long time as the parking was never allotted. On the other hand, there is a demand of re-tendering of multi-level parking at mini-secretariat that is also managed by Bhola and Co where complaints of fleecing are rampant.
