Meritorious students fail to get admission at SCD Govt College

After very high cut off for admission in BCom at Government College for Girls (GCG)- 97% without mathematics and 93% with mathematicsa similar was followed by SCD Government College, where Class 12 meritorious students, with percentage as high as 92%, have not been able to get admission in BCom first year.

The cut off at the college is 93.5% without mathematics and 89.5% with mathematics. However, in 2013, the cut off at the college was 89% without mathematics.

The admission process at all gover nment and private colleges started on Monday. However, all seats were filled in SCD Government College and Government College for Girls on the first day of the admissions. Both colleges have total number of 140 seats for BCom.

Ashish Gosal, a student, said, “I have scored 92% in Class 12 but won’t get admission in SCD College because of very high cut off this year. I was very excited to study in SCD College but I am disappointed after seeing the merit list.”

Talking to HT, Rajinder Singh, principal, SCD Government College said, “While there are only 140 seats for BCom in the college, we had received around 2,080 applications.”

Gurminder Kaur, principal of GCG, said, “Though we had declared the merit list for BCom on Saturday, the admission process was started today. We have also declared the merit list for BSc medical and non-medical, admissions for which will be held on Tuesday.”
