The incident that happened some days ago came to light on Thursday when the girl approached police for registration of a first information report (FIR) against the accused, identified as Beant Singh Banti.

In her compliant, the 17-year-old girl, who also hails from Daulatpura Newan village, said Banti abducted her on October 30 after inviting her to his aunt’s house at Dashmesh Nagar in Moga for a birthday party.

“Banti’s aunt Sarwan Kaur and her husband Gursewak Singh helped the accused in abducting the girl and forcibly confining her at their house,” said Charanjit Kaur, the investigation officer in the case.

“The victim said she was repeatedly raped. On November 9, she managed to flee from the house and narrated the entire incident to her family,” added the IO.

A case under Sections 376 (rape), 344(wrongful confinement for 10 days or more) 506 (criminal intimidation) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the accused at model police station in Moga.

“The main accused Banti has been arrested while both co-accused are still at large. Raids are being conducted at several places to nab the accused,” said the IO.
