The mother of the victim was attacked earlier this week, after which the police shifted the family to a location outside the village.

Sources said that a 5-year-old was raped by 30-year-old Sonu of Balewal village on March 31.

After the crime, the accused fled the spot and the girl was taken to Balachaur civil hospital, where she was declared normal only after 24 hours. The accused, Sonu was arrested by Kathgarh police the same evening and was remanded to judicial custody the next day.

Speaking with Hindustan Times, Succha Singh, victim's uncle claimed: "We are being pressed to strike a compromise. Even as we the victims, rumours are being spread to discredit the family. The accused's brother is threatening us.”

SHO Kathgarh Ramji Dass said: “The family is safe. I have deputed two cops to visit them regularly. We will not allow the family to be threatened or harmed in any way.”
