Owner of the car, Sanjiv Kumar, an MBA student, reported to the police on March 16 that his car, which was parked in front of his house at Focal Point last night, was found missing in the morning.

The Focal Point police registered a case against unidentified car lifters on March 18. "On the very next day of registration of the case, the police informed me that my car was found abandoned in gutted condition," said Sanjiv.

"The police are unable to ascertain reasons behind the act. They are suspecting personal rivalry behind the burning of the car and are questioning me about it. However, I don't suspect anyone," he added.

"The case has become a puzzle. It can be a case of personal enmity," says ASI Kuldeep Singh, investigating officer, adding that the preliminary investigations suggest that the car lifters used petrol to burn the car.

However, the police added the charge of damaging the car by burning against unidentified lifters, besides theft.
