Victim Gaganpreet Singh (20) was from Basant Avenue. In a case lodged at Majitha Road, his father, Kamaljit Singh, charged the Nayyar Hospital authorities with causing death by negligence. Around 8pm on Sunday, Gaganpreet had left his house. "Late into the night, his worried family started searching for him and spotted his two-wheeler parked outside the hospital. It then approached the police," said inspector Sukhjinder Singh of the Majitha Road police station.

On Monday morning, the police received a telephone call from Nayyar Hospital about a body found in one of its lavatories. "The body turned out to be of the missing youth. It was a general toilet, which members of the hospital staff also used," said the inspector.

Since the hospital's outpatient department (OPD) was closed on Sunday, the housekeeping team had not checked the toilet. "On Monday morning, when the cleaners tried to open it, they found it locked from inside. They assumed it was use until they caught a foul smell from the washroom, at which, they broke open the door and found the body," said the police officer.
