"Forensic laboratory assistant directors Davinder Pal Singh Sehgal and Ashwani Kalia were present on the spot," said Harinder Singh Dod, SHO, South City police station.

"The team collected samples of manufactured firecrackers, a mysterious black powder, explosive material used in firecrackers and ash residue from burst crackers," said the SHO.

He said the samples would be sent to the SAS Nagar lab after a team of army experts conduct an inspection of the spot on Sunday.

Moga SSP Snehdeep Sharma said a case had been registered against Liyaqat Ali Raj, owner of the house who succumbed to his injuries at Civil Hospital, under Section 304-B of the IPC and Sections 3, 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act on a statement by a neighbour Vinay Kumar.
Vijay told the police that Liyaqat used to illegally manufacture firecrackers and stock them in large quantities in his house, which collapsed due to impact of the blast.
