'More than 8 lakh metric tonne wheat procured so far'

Nearly 8, 45, 099 metric tonne wheat reached different grain markets of the district by May 2. Deputy commissioner of Ludhiana Rahul Tewari informed this here on Friday adding that 8,32,114 metric tonnes out of this was bought by different agencies.

Deputy commissioner of Ludhiana Rahul Tewari informed this here on Friday adding that 8,32,114 metric tonnes out of this was bought by different agencies.

Tiwari said that the work on procurement of wheat across the district was continuing.

He said Pungrain has procured a total of 1,53,765 metric tonnes wheat; Markfed a total of 1,58,916 metric tonnes; Punsap 1,62,047 metric tonnes; Punjab Ware House Corporation 98,043 metric tonnes; Punjab agro 65,146 metric tonnes; FCI 1,63,397 metric tonnes and private firms 30,800 metric tonnes.

Tewari said 91% of the payment of the procurement has been made to farmers and 89% wheat has been lifted from grain markets.

He said last year a total of 8,51,442 metric tonnes of wheat had reached grain markets by May 2.

Tewari directed the managers of the wheat markets across the district to ensure hassle-free lifting of wheat. He also directed the SDMs to solve any problem being faced by farmers and other agencies in the process of procurement.
