The city residents woke up to a pleasant morning on Monday as rain lashed the city, bringing down the day temperature to 24.8 degress.
The morning shower also brought with them respite from humidity.
According to the meteorological department (Met) department report, the district received around 0.2mm of rainfall, following which the maximum temperature was recorded as 29.7 degrees.
The city residents got respite from humid weather which was prevailing for the last couple of days while school going students had to struggle through road traffic.
The residents heaved a sigh of relief from humid weather prevailing for the last couple of days. The humidity, which had reached 90% on Sunday, reduced to 79% after the morning rainfall on Monday.
“The weather turned pleasant. We had been expecting rain as it was cloudy for the last few days, but there was no rain and this increased the humidity level in the city,” said Harsh Jain, a resident of Kitchlu Nagar.
The officials at the Met department in Chandigarh said the weather will continue to be cloudy. “The weather will remain cloudy and mild rainfall is expected to occur in the district in the coming days. The temperature will hover around 30 degrees in case of rainfall,” said a Met department official.

Dr KK Gill, assistant agricultural meteorologist at PAU, said mild rainfall will not have any adverse effect on paddy crop. “The western part of the state, which predominantly grows cotton, has less chances of receiving rainfall. So there will be no adverse impact on the cotton crop,” said Dr Gill.
