Mullanpur poor children get lessons on golf at workshop

As many as 25 children are getting trained by professional golf coaches at the five-day workshop that began on June 3.

Himanshu Pant, head of sales & marketing, said, “Most of the kids are from labourers’ families who helped us in building the township. We’ve been organising this camp for the past three years and our motive is to provide an opportunity to children who otherwise can’t afford the royal sport.”

Meanwhile, the coaches will identify the three most talented players who will in turn be provided comprehensive training for another three months.

Manav Chandna, one of the professional golf coaches at the workshop, said: “Manuel de la Torre, a tried and tested technique, is followed to teach this sport to beginners. I’m focusing on teaching the basics of golf to the kids such as how to use body, how to hold and use a golf club, the position of the elbow, shoulders, hands and legs while hitting or chipping.”
