Constable Gurdeep Singh, who had accompanied Samra from Nabha jail, said the incident took place at around 12: 45 pm.

"Suddenly, I observed Keepa training his gun on Samra to shoot him. Before he could do so, I took out my service revolver. This scared Keepa and he could not shoot. Eventually, we nabbed him."

During interrogation, Keepa has said that he and Samra had developed enmity over some issues in Patiala jail, when both were inmates there.
