Even as he did not apply for his candidature, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) state secretary Paramjeet Singh was chosen by the screening committee as the official nominee from Karnal parliamentary constituency.
“It is true that I was not even a contender but the screening committee finalised my name and I was asked to contest from my home turf. It (selection even without applying) was done in accordance with the candidate nomination rules of the party,” Singh said at a press conference here on Tuesday.
He admitted that he was recently booked for violating prohibitory orders while agitating near the Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi and the matter was sub judice.
Singh said two people, including a promoter of private schools from Karnal, were in the race but he was picked.
AAP’s state secretary said the party would release the official election manifesto in a week’s time. “Corruption in public life is the core agenda of our party. We condemn the practice where the relatives and those close to the politicians from the ruling party, including chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, were preferred for government jobs,” said Singh, one of the founder members of the party.
He said it was a misnomer that Rohtak, the home district of Hooda, had seen more development. “Rohtak is no better than any other district of the state in terms of development. AAP is against the rampant corruption shown in the change of land use (CLU) policy by the Hooda government,” he said, adding that the party opposed imposition of toll tax on the highways.

{{/usCountry}}Singh said the party would promote the idea where local women would decide on the issue of opening a liquor vend in their vicinity.
Reiterating former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s repeated allegations against the media, Singh said a section of the media owners were involved in maligning the image of AAP for petty gains.
A postgraduate in Punjabi, Singh said he had withdrawn his partnership from an electrical appliances factory three years ago to become a full-time activist.
