According to local residents, the road was carpeted about two months ago, but as the underground sewerage line is leaking at several places beneath the road, which was not checked at the time of execution of work, the road has caved in at several locations and cracks have developed at many places.

The interesting aspect is that the sewerage line was also laid a few months ago by the Punjab Sewerage Board.

Gurpreet Singh, who runs a shop alongside the road said, "One can imagine the poor monitoring by the MCB and the person who was allotted the work that this brand new road has sunk at many places. What is the logic in spending lakhs of rupees if we can't check such things?"

Another shopkeeper Jagjit Singh said that if the authorities didn't improve the condition, the entire road will turn into an ugly patch in a short span of time which will be a wastage of public money and will also be a problem for the locals.

Superintending engineer (SE), MCB, BD Singla, said the matter was not in my notice and I will look into it as soon as possible and will do the needful to save the road from further damage.
