Nine arrested for making synthetic milk in Sangrur

The district police, on Saturday, claimed to have seized a huge amount of adulterated milk and milk products and arrested nine people in this connection.

The district police, on Saturday, claimed to have seized a huge amount of adulterated milk and milk products and arrested nine people in this connection.

Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Krishan Kumar said that the police, on a tip-off, raided a factory near Moonak and arrested nine people, who were making synthetic milk in the factory by mixing chemicals.

The accused have been identified as Lal Chand and Gagan Kumar, both residents of Lehra; Bittu Singh from Gobindpura; Baldev Singh, a resident of Pehowa, Haryana; Charanjit Singh, a resident of Kotla Lehal; Ajaib Singh, a resident of Budhlada; Manpreet Singh, a resident of Rampura Jawaharwala; Sanjeev Kumar and Pardeep Kumar, residents of Bareta and Khudal Kalan respectively. The factory was registered in the name of Lal Chand.

Kumar said that they had been running this business for the past more than two months and most of the consignments were supplied to Shahbad Markanda in Haryana.

Three tankers, used to transport milk and machines, have also been seized by the police.

Last week, the police arrested a couple Gagandeep and his wife Neha, residents of Dhuri, and seized 469-kg dairy whitener, 450 litre adulterated milk, 19-kg ghee from the house of the accused.
