The joint action committee fighting for justice in the Shruti Sachdeva kidnapping case will sit at Teachers' Home in Bathinda on Sunday to invite the people of that city into the campaign.
The decision came on Saturday when the main accused, Nishan Singh, was presented in the court of the chief judicial magistrate here and remanded in police custody until October 30. The same court had sent Shruti to Nari Niketan in Jalandhar on her statement, and in a press statement here on Saturday, the committee sought that she should be restored to her family.
Of the 17 suspects in the crime, the police have arrested 15, including the main suspect, Nishan Singh. "Still two suspects, Navjot Kaur, mother of Nishan Singh, and Dimpy Samara, continue to be on the run and free to make further plots," the committee stated. "The kidnapped girl has been recovered but not restored to her parents, contrary to what the police had agreed. Our main protest is against lawlessness and the inability of the police to protect the honour of girls. Our targets are not political."
The committee has requested all social, religious, political, agricultural, student, and trade organisations to be at the meeting in the interest of justice.

{{/usCountry}}The police have gathered the specimen of Nishan's handwriting to see if the papers he had produced were genuine. Co-suspect Toofan Singh was remanded in judicial custody. The investigator's suspecting the role of a close relative of the girl is just an attempt to divert the issue, the joint action committee has said.
Senior superintendent of police Gurpreet Singh Toor declined to comment, saying that he was busy.
