Even five days after an honour killing in Shamsherpur Kurd village near here, the police are yet to arrest any of the accused, including the father of a girl who hanged her lover to death after catching them in an “objectionable condition”.

Though, the Ghiana Ke Banger police have registered a case under sections 302, 201, 120 B, 506 and 149 of IPC against the father of the girl, Pawan Kumar, his brothers Satpal and Jaspal, the village sarpanch Amarjeet Singh, panchayat members Ranjeet Kaur, Ram Singh and Kuldeep Singh, they have failed to arrest any of the accused.

When contacted, Ghiana Ke Banger police station, Jaswant Singh, said that the police are raiding all the possible hideouts of the accused who are still absconding.

A 17-year-old boy, identified as Naga and resident of the neighbouring village Shamsherpur, was hanged to death by the father of the girl with whom he had a love affair for the past two years.

In his complaint to the police, father of the deceased, Malkiat Singh, alleged that his son Naga, who was working as a labourer in the grain market, had a love affair with a 15-year-old girl of Shamsherpur Khurd village.

“In a bid to cover up the crime, Pawan Kumar came to my house and told me that my son was lying in an unconscious condition at his house. When I reached Pawan’s house, I was astonished to see my son hanging with the roof”.

He further alleged, “I tried to call the police but sarpanch Amarjeet Singh, along with others present on the spot, forced me to perform the last rites of my son on the same night and later dispose of the ashes in Ravi river at Kamalpur Jattan village early in the morning of June 3.” he added.
