Putting an end to rumours, the municipal corporation has clearly stated that no price for any property that is to be acquired for the Metro rail project has been fixed so far and it would still take a lot of time to complete the procedure.
There have been rumours since long that the authorities have planned to pay a lower price than the actual market rate for acquiring land in different areas of the city through which the Metro rail would pass.
However, the MC, which was conducting different surveys on the project, has unequivocally said no price has been fixed yet for any area of the city from where the rail would pass. "The project is still in its initial stage and no price has been fixed for any property that has to be acquired for the purpose," said Hemant Batra, senior town planner, who is also a member of the special cell, Metro rail.
There were reports that a large number of city residents were having nightmares after they learnt from unconfirmed sources that the authorities have fixed compensation price lower than the actual for their property.
A resident of Gill Road, who is a doctor by profession and runs a private clinic, said, "I came to know that the government would pay us less amount than the market rate for the area. This would put us under a heavy burden when we have to shift to other area," said the resident.
Public works department minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon during his recent visit to Ludhiana had said all residents, who will be affected due to the construction of the Metro rail, will be aptly compensated by the state government.
