The city residents could not have even a single glimpse of the sun throughout the day as the thick fog did not give in. The meteorological department officials said the visibility had decreased to 50 metre level.

Normal life in the city was affected due to fog as the people did not venture out of their houses except for urgent work. Parks and streets wore deserted look as most of the residents preferred to stay indoors.

Jaswinder Kaur, a resident of Gurbaksh colony said, "The government must declare holidays in schools. It's inhuman to expect children to come to schools in such bone chilling weather. Some of the schools do not even have any furniture. How can we let children sit on cold floor and study. "
