Nominations of eight candidates rejected

The district election office (DEO) on Thursday rejected the nomination papers of eight candidates for the Jalandhar parliamentary (reserve) seat.

The district election office (DEO) on Thursday rejected the nomination papers of eight candidates for the Jalandhar parliamentary (reserve) seat.

With the rejection of eight nominations, a total of 26 candidates are left in the fray for the Lok Sabha seat.

DEO Varun Roojam said the candidates whose nomination papers were rejected included - Indian National Congress Party's (INCP) Vikramjeet Singh Chaudhary as substitute candidate; Independent candidate Manpreet Kaur; Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate Ganga Ram; SAD (A) candidate Sukhpuran Singh; Akhil Bharti Hindu Mahasabha (ABHM) candidate Asha.

Each one nomination of three other candidates - Tarsem Peter, Vijay Hans and Tara - who had filed their papers twice, rejected.
