Peeved about the lackadaisical approach of IEC University authorities in refunding the security amount, several students and their wards staged a protest outside the university's main gate at Kalujhinda near industrial township in Baddi on Friday.
The protesters were demanding stern action against the varsity authorities, including the registration of a criminal case for deliberately declining refund of their booking amount that was deposited for getting the admission last year.
Meanwhile, the leaders of Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) also arrived on the campus and joined the protesting students and their wards. The leaders said that the issue would be taken up with the government and no private educational institutions opened during the previous BJP regime, would be allowed to play with the career of the state students.
Later, station house office (SHO), Barotiwala, along with the staff visited the spot.
The trouble brewed up in the morning when some students along with their wards visited the university and asked for refund of their booking amount, which they deposited with the varsity last year.
INTUC leaders Yashpal Thakur and Shaym Thakur said that since the university authorities had asked to deposit the amount in advance for seeking admission in various courses last year, the delaying of the refund of the same showed that certain people were running “cheating shops” in the name of educational institutions.

They said that the party would initiate stern action against the university management if the security amount was not refunded within fortnight.
Admitting delay in refunding the amount, university registrar Narender Sharma said that current situation arose after the misplacing of the list of the students.
