Palwinder Kaur, the complainant, sent an email to the NRI police station from Australia, seeking help to stop the marriage of her husband Manpreet Singh with a girl from Sutehri Khurd. Her father Amrik Singh also reached the police station with the complaint. SHO Satnam Singh immediately reached the given marriage palace where the ceremoney was to be solemnized but the groom and his relatives had already fled.

The police took Singh’s father and another relative in custody and brought them to the thana for questioning. The bride’s family said they were shocked to know the groom was not divorced yet as they had been told and had a four-year-old child.
