Punjab cabinet minister Tota Singh on Wednesday said that the NRI Sangat Darshan organised by chief minister Parkash Singh Badal has started showing positive results.
He said that the deputy commissioners of different areas of the state have started receiving appreciation letters after their complaints were resolved on time.
A meeting was held in Ludhiana in which principal secretary, NRI affairs, Sanjay Kumar, Inspector General NRI wing Gurpreet Deo, Ludhiana deputy commissioner Rajat Agarwal, deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Naveen Singla, Ludhiana rural SSP Ravcharan Singh Brar, Khanna SSP Gurpreet Singh Gill, besides other senior officials of district administration were present.
Describing the NRIs as ambassadors of Punjab and its culture in foreign countries, Tota Singh said that they were an asset as well as pride of the entire Punjabi community so it was the bounden duty of the state government to ensure their welfare.
While speaking to mediapersons after the meeting, Tota Singh said the complaints received from Ludhiana district in the NRI Sangat Darshan were 113, out of which 51 were related to police and 62 to civil cases. He said that out of total complaints, 57 have already been disposed of while 56 are pending out of which 11 are related to civil cases and 45 to police. The minister said that the pending complaints will also be resolved in next few days time.
Singh said that for ensuring speedy justice to the NRIs, the state government is also working on setting up of special courts. He said that Punjab is the only state in the country which has set up a separate department to look into NRI complaints and NRI police stations are also working successfully.

Deputy commissioner Rajat Agarwal said that after the NRI Sangat Darshan was successfully organised on January 18 and all complaints related to Ludhiana district were duly sorted and sent to all concerned departments for their timely disposal.
