NRI woman assaulted, case registered

A 42-year-old NRI has alleged that a man living in her locality assaulted her late Tuesday night in Shiv Nagar locality, after she objected to advances the man made to her friend. The accused Sumit Kumar had reportedly been engaged to the NRI's friend six years ago. However, the wedding was called off for some reason.

A 42-year-old NRI has alleged that a man living in her locality assaulted her late Tuesday night in Shiv Nagar locality, after she objected to advances the man made to her friend. The accused Sumit Kumar had reportedly been engaged to the NRI's friend six years ago. However, the wedding was called off for some reason.


On Wednesday, the two woman met the SSP and submitted a written complaint against the accused.

A medical examination of the girl was also conducted, which confirmed injuries. SP (headquarter) Lakhwinder Pal Singh Khaira said that the police had recorded the statements of both women.

“The police have registered a case against Sumit under Sections 354 (sssault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 451 (house-trespass in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention),” he added.
