Online complaint system proves its value to NRI

A mouse click saved an NRI sitting in the US from being duped of his land in the state by his close aide.

The land is worth Rs 1 crore and in Guru Har Sahai subdivision of Ferozepur district. Amarjit Singh Saini, now living at 8221 Amity Circle, Gaithersburg, USA, on Monday sent a message on e-mail to the office of the Ferozepur deputy commissioner at mcell.dcfzr@gmail.com.

In the message, he wrote that he had awarded a power of attorney to his close aide Paramjit Singh to allow him to only manage his plot in Guru Har Sahai but Paramjit instead had transferred the 30.11-kanal property at Nonari Khokhar village near Wasil Mohankee in favour of his grandson.

The power of attorney gave no authority to Paramjit to transfer the land, which he did by fraud means and without the owner’s knowledge or consent, Saini has stated in his complaint.

The non-resident Indian (NRI) has demanded thorough investigation, the annulling of the registration of land in question, and the restoration of his ownership rights.

During scrutiny of the documents, the police claim to have found that Saini was genuine in his complaint. “The sub-magistrate (naib tehsildar) concerned as well as the document writer (arzi nawis) have been issued show-cause notice,” deputy commissioner S Karuna Raju, who initiated the investigation on the very day of receiving the mail, has confirmed.

The district’s officials have orders to give top priority to settling complaints from the NRIs to let them feel secure about their property in the motherland, the DC has said.
