Only 1,000 tourist vehicles to be allowed towards Rohtang Pass per day

In order to comply with the National Green Tribunal (NGT) order, Kullu administration will allow only 1,000 tourist vehicles per day to tourist hot spot Rohtang pass, which is set to be opened to traffic in the next few days.

Meanwhile, tourists would be allowed to go up to Marhi starting May 20, and a check post has been erected at Gulaba to charge congestion and environment protection charges as per the NGT order.

Environment protection charges would be charged at Rs 1,000 from petrol vehicles, Rs 2,500 from diesel vehicles and Ra 5,000 for vehicle having capacity of more than six people. The 1,000 vehicles would be allowed in the classification of 60% petrol and 40% diesel vehicles.

Kullu deputy commissioner Rakesh Kanwar said he, along with a team, recently visited the Rohtang Pass to assess the situation, and found that it was currently not suitable to handle traffic. Therefore, they would initially allow tourist vehicles from Gulaba to Marhi between 6am and 4pm.
