The State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) of Punjab Police on Wednesday arrested a Faridkot man on charge of spying for Pakistan.
Accused Lovedeep Singh is from Park Avenue in Faridkot and a clerk in the Electronic Clearance Service (ECS) department of the army at that cantonment. In a press release issued here, the SSOC claimed that the arrest had been made near a canal bridge on the Faridkot bypass.
Police claim to have seized photographs of restricted army areas, defence manuals and a hand-made sketch of military installations from the man now charged under the Official Secrets Act and the Indian Penal Code. The case is lodged at Amritsar.
He is reported to have revealed that Pakistani spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence had hired him about 18 months ago and collected from him details of troop movement in the Faridkot, Ferozepur and Fazilka sectors, besides information about the construction of army bunkers on the Indian side of the border.
He also passed on to the enemy inputs about army training and exercises, claim the special cell officers.
