The NRI Commission, Punjab, has ordered the Gurdaspur district administration to take prompt action in handing over possession of a property to its Denmark-based owner, Sarjit Singh Ahluwalia (78).

The commission asked the Gurdaspur deputy commissioner and senior superintendent of police (SSP) to do the needful in this regard and submit the action-taken report to the commission by September 23, fixing the responsibility of erring officials.

Ahluwalia, a physically-challenged Denmark citizen, had filed a complaint that he was forcibly dispossessed of his land measuring 18 kanals and 6 marlas in Purana Chaawla village under Gurdaspur tehsil after one Gurnam Singh forged the fake power of attorney and executed the sale deed in favour of a third party in connivance with revenue officials.

The commission had initiated the probe that led to the findings, a spokesman for commission said here.

Ahluwalia’s earlier complaints to the deputy commissioner and the SSP had not yielded any result, the spokesman added.
