With an online admission system in place for the first time, a single application for admission to Panjab University (PU) will cost Rs 300 for one course, down from Rs 500 last year.

Of the Rs 300-fee, Rs 150 will go to the firm providing online admission facility while the rest will remain with PU.
This time, one can apply for four courses through a single application form but charges will vary according to the number of courses. For example, if an aspirant applies for two courses, he/she will be charged Rs 400. Fee will be Rs 500 for applying to three courses through a single form and Rs 600 for four courses.
PU vice-chancellor Prof Arun K Grover released the Handbook of Information-2017 in presence of Prof Meenakshi Malhotra, dean university instructions (DUI), and former DUI Prof Dinesh K Gupta on Wednesday. The handbook has information about number of seats, important dates for admissions, fee structure, scholarships available, application procedure and can be purchased for Rs 700 from the PU sale counter. It can also be downloaded from the PU website.
Prof Gupta informed that for the convenience of the students, centralised checking of certificates had been introduced. “ They will be checked at one place for once,” he said.
“ Earlier, a student had to get a bank challan, which was to be deposited at the concerned teaching department. But now, aspirants will get alerts through SMS and e-mail at every stage of the application’s processing,” said Prof Gupta.
At the occasion, the V-C also said that the objective of online admissions was transparency. He added that multiple options for payment had been provided to students.
