Ajay Sharma - the father of the girl who has been allegedly denied free education by GMT Public School under the single girl child scheme - on Wednesday shot off a letter to the CBSE regional office, Panchkula, alleging the school of not abiding by norms of the scheme and charging fee from them for their daughter's education.

According to the Government of India rules, every single girl child will be provided free education from Class 6 to 12 by all the CBSE-affiliated schools.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Sharma said: "My daughter, who is in Class 8, has been studying at the school since 2010. In the absence of knowledge about the single girl child scheme, I have been paying her fee regularly to the school.

"But, on Wednesday, I have written a letter to the CBSE regional office, Panchkula, urging him to take action against the school and also order it to refund the fee, which I had paid to the school since 2010,"he said, adding that there would be many parents, who would not be aware of the scheme and its benefits."

The CBSE has also put a circular on its website (cbse.nic.in), asking the schools to either follow the fee-waiver rule or lose the affiliation.
