Even as visitors have taken up the issue of fleecing by the multi-level parking lot contractor at the mini-secretariat here, their pleas have fallen on deaf ears of the authorities concerned.
Those employed by the contractor at the parking lot are seen charging `40 from four-wheelers against the authorised amount of rs 23 and rs 20 from two-wheelers against `12.
Hundreds of people visit the mini-secretariat everyday. Offices of deputy commissioner and sub-divisional magistrate are housed here.
Interestingly, DC Rajat Agarwal had recently deployed a policeman to keep an eye on the contractor.
The policeman, however, was not seen on spot.
HT is in possession of video clipping in which the parking lot staff are seen demanding Rs 40 parking of a car for onehour. The contractor has deployed some bouncers in the lot and visitors have been complaining of complaints of misbehavior by them.
Sources maintain that officials hesitate taking action against the contractor due to political pressure.
The contractor was also found charging money from typing agents sitting outside the mini-secretariat despite he is not authorised to do so. Surprisingly, the police commissioner’s office is also located nearby.

A cart owner said they were charged `300 daily for each cart. The matter was brought to the notice of DC Rajat Agarwal. “We will definitely take action against the contractor, if found guilty. The policeman who was deployed to see there was no fleecing would also be dealt with sternly,”said Agarwal.
