The security agencies in Pathankot were on their toes on Sunday after a resident of Dorangla village in neighbouring Gurdaspur district received a telephone call from an unidentified number, allegedly originating from France, asking him to “collect goods” from a black-coloured vehicle on the India-Pakistan border. The alert was subsequently withdrawn.
After receiving the mysterious call, the man, who was not identified, informed the police. A high alert was sounded after Gurdaspur senior superintendent of police (SSP) JS Hundal intimated his Pathankot and Batala counterparts about the development in the wee hours of Sunday.
“We took the alert seriously as after the terror attack on Pathankot air force station and Dinanagar police station, police are not taking any chances,” said Pathankot SSP Rakesh Kaushal.
He said the checking at different nakas in the district was intensified in the wake of the mysterious call. The high alert was withdrawn after 5-6 hours of checking did not yield anything substantial.
