A middle age farmer committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at here Bhadso village on Wednesday as he could not settle the financial dispute with a moneylender over the piece of land. A court had also given judgment against the farmer.

The deceased, Rajindra Singh, had taken a loan of `1.5 lakh from the moneylender. As he was unable to repay the loan, the amount swelled to `2.5 lakh in two years. The moneylender took the deposit statement over his piece of land, but Rajindra failed to prepare the registry of the land on time.
The moneylender filed a case in the court which gave the judgment in his favour and directed Rajinder to make a registry of the land. He consumed a poisonous substance on April 13 and died at a hospital.
On a complaint of the farmer’s wife, Gurmeet Kaur, the police have booked moneylender Bhupinder Singh, a resident of Fatehgarh Sahib under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code.
Station house officer Rajwinder Singh said raids were being conducted to arrest the accused.
