The accused Parladh Singh had allegedly demanded Rs 15,000 for transferring land ownership to the farmer.

Deputy superintendent of police (vigilance) Surinder Kumar said that the farmer had approached the bureau officials after the patwari demanded money to get land ownership transferred after the death of Satvir Singh's father.

"The patwari demanded Rs 15, 000 for the job. We caught him accepting the bribe," he added.
Government officials were present there as witnesses, he added.

The DSP added that the patwari's house at Moga was also searched, but no incriminating documents or money were found.

"A case has been registered against Parladh Singh under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Investigation is on," said the police.
