PAU employees end two-month long protest

The non-teaching employees of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) suspended their two-month long dharna on Tuesday after an assurance from the vice-chancellor that their demands would be fulfilled.

The non-teaching employees of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) suspended their two-month long dharna on Tuesday after an assurance from the vice-chancellor that their demands would be fulfilled.

Before suspending the protest, the employees took out a protest rally in front of Thapar hall here. General secretary of PAU employees union, Dr GS Pandher said vice-chancellor BS Dhillon has assured us for issuing arrears of increased salary in two to three months after which we have decided to suspend the regular dharna.

"The V-C told us that principal secretary, finance, Satish Chandra had assured him of releasing the arrears of increased salary soon. After this the employees decided to lift the dharna," he said.

The non-teaching employees were staging protests in front of Thapar hall everyday demanding release of arrears for the increased salary.

Meanwhile, Dhillon's meeting with finance minister, Parminder Singh Dhindsa that was scheduled for Tuesday has been rescheduled for Wednesday. Dhillon said he would meet the minister on Wednesday to discuss about the university's budget.
