The fifty-year-old monthly journal, Progressive Farming, of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), published in Punjabi and English with the title “Changi Kheti” (good farming) and progressive farming respectively, has readers not only in Punjab but also in other agricultural states of the country and neighbouring country like Pakistan. The credit for the success of the magazine goes to expert scientists at PAU, who always try to publish awareness columns and articles as per the season of crops and vegetables.
According to the records at Centre for Communication and International Linkages (CCII), PAU, there has been a substantial rise in number of subscribers of the magazine, both in English and Punjabi, by farmers, scientists and agricultural students, not only in Punjab but across the country.
In 2011, the PAU had started publishing coloured pictures in articles instead of black and white ones, which shot up the number of subscription figures from 1, 01,500 rose in 2010 to 1, 06,750 in 2011.
With an aim to sensitise farmers about the new techniques in farming, the PAU keeps on giving new offers to farmers.
In March this year, during the Kisan Mela, the editorial team led by AP Singh offered discount of 50% on the annual subscription to farmers who attended the fair.
“Now we have decided to offer discount during the Kisan Mela every year. The annual subscription fee is ? 200 but after the 50% discount, farmers can get the annual subscription for just ? 100. Our aim is to apprise farmers about their needs and new advancements in the field of agriculture, ”maintained Singh, adding the new magazine is dispatched in the last week of the month.

The Punjab Agricultural University, for its articles on latest agricultural techniques, has also received appreciation from various quarters.
