Congress councillor Kuljeet Singh Bedi, who had moved the Punjab and Haryana high court seeking directions to the local bodies department to repatriate SAS Nagar municipal corporation (MC) employees, withdrew his petition on Thursday.
In his petition, Bedi said for the past many years, MC employees of almost every cadre/posts (from Class 1to 4) were being made to serve in the local bodies department. A total of 35 MC employees are working with the directorate and other offices of the local bodies department but are drawing salaries from the civic body, he said.
Bedi said the MC was incurring an expenditure of `35 lakh per month on the salaries of the employees working in the directorate of local bodies.
Bedi said: “The directorate has not taken authorisation or consent of officials concerned, which is against service conditions. The MC has been forced to outsource work due to staff shortage.” Bedi appraised the high court that he had submitted a representation to the directorate of local bodies in October 2015 seeking repatriation of the MC staff within a month.
However, on Thursday, the petition was “dismissed as withdrawn” with the observation that “the representation made by Bedi in October 2015 be considered and decided by the authorities in accordance with law”.
