PIMS crisis over, paramedical staff end strike

The paramedical staff had joined the strike with doctors in the second week of December as they had also not received salaries for three months. The staff had also resented the pick-and-choose policy of the management while giving increments.

Recently, they were given two months' salaries but even then they were not ready to call off the strike along with the doctors, who called it off a couple of days back.

The agitating staff demanded an assurance in writing from those controlling the PIMS affairs on behalf of the new members added by the governing body.

Sunil Kapur and Dinesh Mishra, both advisers to the newly added members, had discussions with the agitating staff in the past two days.

Theory classes were resumed at the institute from Thursday but due to the strike by the paramedical and non-teaching staff, there were no practicals and clinical training.

From Monday, the routine functioning of PIMS would start; all OPDs and laboratories would function normally, a PIMS official said.
