Police officials retain government houses, despite transfers

Many such officers continue to occupy government quarters in Ludhiana, with some even retaining the houses for around two years. Officers who have been posted in Ludhiana of late are bearing the brunt, since no suitable government accommodation is left available for them.

Among the officers who have not been able to avail of government house facility included deputy commissioner of police S Bhoopati, ACP (traffic) J Elanchezhian, ACP (east) Dhruman Nimbale and SP (industrial security) Amarjit Singh. Such officers are forced to stay in Gazetted Officers mess instead.

Those who have retained government houses in the city despite their postings elsewhere included PPS officers Paramjit Singh Pannu, Sandeep Goyal, Raj Kumar and RK Bakshi.

According to rules, officers posted out of the city have to vacate the government house within 60 days. "Such officers rarely vacate the house in time. Officers have a special liking for Ludhiana since it is one of the developed cities of the state," remarked an officer.

Will write to authorities for houses: police commissioner
Police Commissioner Ishwar Singh said he would write to the state and police department authorities to look for suitable houses for four officers who were facing problems due to non-availability of government accommodations.
