Amid escalating ‘rumours’ about the alleged ‘gang rape’ of a Dharamsala Post Graduate College student, the Himachal Pradesh Police on Wednesday announced cash award of Rs 25,000 to anyone who would provide relevant information that would help in tracing the victim or identify the accused.
“Anyone who will give clues that will in solving the case will be given cash award Rs 25,000,” said HP director general of police Sanjay Kumar, adding that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by inspector general of police (IGP), North GD Bhargava under the supervision of additional director general of police (ADGP), law and order, Sanjay Kundu would probe the alleged incident.
Kundu would be visiting Dharamsala on Thursday to assess the situation and progress in the case.
“We are still clueless and trying to gather evidences whether the incident really happened or some mischievous elements were just spreading the rumors,” said the DGP.
“Whosoever is spreading misleading information about the case, whether media or individual, will be taken to the task,” he added.
Meanwhile, an FIR has been registered in the case at Dharamsala Police station. “An FIR has been registered under section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) against unknown persons in the case,” said IPS officer Shalini Agnihotri.
Further, the team of Kangra police has held that they have been analysing the footages recorded in the CCTV cameras installed on the college campus but, so far, neither the girl who allegedly met the principal, nor any clue about her or the incident has been found.
