A day after members of Parliament (MP) Ravneet Singh Bittu from Ludhiana and Bhagwant Mann from Sangrur extended support to the fisheries students of GADVASU, now Fatehgarh Sahib MP Harinder Singh Khalsa of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and independent MLA Simarjit Singh Bains have come forward to join the students’ fight. These students have been protesting against the university since June 2 for not ensuring jobs for them.

Justifying the students’ strike, both Bains and Khalsa said it was the students’ right to get government jobs. While Bittu advised students to give a day or two to the university and the government to find a solution, else block the Ferozepur Road, Bains asked students to initiate protest outside the DC’s office rather than blocking any road as it will trouble the public.

Bhagwant Mann, who assured the students on Friday evening of spending the night with them did not do so, and returned to meet them at 1 am. Students said he was in constant touch with them.

Meanwhile, students claimed that since June 18, the last day of their four-year programme, no official from their university came to meet them.
