The court of additional session judge JS Bhinder convicted Nank Singh, a resident of Jethuwal of Gurdaspur district, and Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of Ramban district of Jammu, from whose possession Garhdiwala police had recovered 3.60 quintals of the contraband in September 2011.

Acting on a tip off that a huge quantity of poppy husk was being smuggled from J&K, a patrolling party intercepted a truck (HR 47 8905) near Gondpur village. Out of the 300 apple boxes, 200 contained the contraband. The accused were arrested under NDPS Act.

The court also slapped a fine of Rs one lakh each in default of which they would have to undergo one year more in jail.

Meanwhile the court of district and session judge G K Dheer sentenced a local resident Harpal Singh, who had set on fire a taxi stand shed two years ago, to 10-year imprisonment.
