There is, however, a way out from this mesh of stress. Amritsar-born and Manhattan-based fashion entrepreneur-turned-yoga expert Radhika Khanna offers this way out in her book Pose — a compilation of one-minute yoga poses that working professionals can practice anytime, anywhere and find solace in everyday work environment.

In the nine chapters of the book, Khanna offers yoga solutions to almost every problem that working professionals face. “While writing my memoir for the past two years, called The God I Sold, I had planned to make the last chapter on how I live my life now. But eventually, it turned out to be a book itself. The situations included in the book are those that every working professional faces on a daily basis. But simple yoga poses can help tackle these situations better,” she says.

Khanna can confidently vouch for the effectiveness of these poses since it was yoga that saved her from the life threatening disease, Lupus. “It was yoga that gave me a new life and I became my own boss. Long working hours can be mentally stressful and we tend to forget about the body, which is helping us do everything. If we just take out one minute out of every 60 minutes to connect our mind to the body, it is the best way to pay your gratitude to the body,” she adds. The cover of the book shows Radhika wearing a short skirt and heels and standing on her head in the middle of a busy Manhattan street. However, there is a reason behind choosing this cover.

“The cover photo was supposed to be me in my office suit doing Aulom Vilom. The book release was on January 11 and on December 29, I was in New Delhi for my brother’s (Vikas Khanna) book launch. In the morning, we heard the news of the death of Delhi gang-rape victim. I felt like an inferior sex being a woman that day. When I returned to New York, the image of Indian women had changed with one incident as the politicians in India had bad remarks to give about women. I changed the cover of the book to show that Indian women have always been strong and educated and continue to be so,” shares Radhika.

Launched in January 2013, the book is available across the world at online portals.
