A man brutally murdered his eight-month pregnant daughter-in- law and her mother with a sharp-edged weapon following a brawl over a family issue in Ekta Colony of the Meharban area on Tuesday evening.
The suspect, Subhash, fled the spot after committing the cold-blooded double murder, but later surrendered before the police.
Subhash was booked on the charge of murder at the Meharban police station.
The victims were identified as Seema, 22, and her mother Usha, 45. Seema's brother who had accompanied them escaped unhurt in the attack.
According to Meharban police station SHO Inderjit Singh, Seema had got married to Subhash's son Sonu a year ago. Sonu had been living with his in-laws as he did not enjoy cordial relations with his parents. Both the families were not on talking terms due to the issue.
The victims, Seema and Usha on Tuesday visited Subhash's home to resolve the issue amicably, but they entered into a scuffle with Subhash and his wife.
In a fit of rage, Subhash attacked them with a sharp-edged weapon and killed them. The police recovered the weapon that was used by the suspect to commit the double murder.
